Dear Hiring Committee,
Every painting and print I make gets photographed, cataloged, and archived in Artwork Archive, with its consignment terms and collector correspondence tracked in the same record, because a studio practice falls apart fast when the paperwork drifts from the work. I have run the same kind of records on the shared side at Pratt, where I manage studio materials, printmaking press safety, and the shop schedule for the painting area so people working in intaglio and relief are not stepping on each other at the bed. That mix of independent practice and shared-shop management is what a members' studio with an open press actually needs day to day. Wythe Street, where painters and printmakers at very different levels share one press, is where keeping those records straight pays off.
Since 2021 I have been an Adjunct Instructor at Pratt Institute, teaching two sections of foundation drawing and color theory each semester and mentoring roughly 36 undergraduate students per term. I built the critique and portfolio-review structure that prepares those students for BFA thesis and gallery submission, so I am comfortable running a studio that has to serve people at very different levels at once. My own practice stays active alongside the teaching: I had a solo show, Tidal Registers, at Pierogi Gallery in Brooklyn in 2025, was selected for Surface Tension at Smack Mellon, juried by curator Lauren Haynes, in 2024, and completed a residency at the Vermont Studio Center the same year. I produce 15 to 20 finished paintings and editioned prints a year, so I know how to keep work moving while managing materials, press safety, and shared shop time.
My website, omardiallo.art, has current paintings and editioned prints with titles and dates that match my CV, and I can bring physical plates and a few intaglio proofs in so you can look at surface and registration up close. A useful first project would be setting up a press queue and a sign-out system for the shared shop, the same approach I already use to keep my own consignment and inventory records clean. My weekday afternoons are open, and I can fit my hours to your studio calendar.
